The Hub Neighbourhood Centre Inala began in 1986 with a group of local residents concerned about the isolation of older community members. They envisioned a drop in centre where people could pop in for a chat, meet others, and build relationships. An incorporated association was established, with meetings and activities moving from the home of a local resident to a room at the community health centre.
In 1989, a house was provided by the Queensland State Government, and The Hub Neighbourhood Centre opened its doors. Over the years, the centre developed and evolved into an information and referral service and became actively involved in broader community networks. In 1994, funding was received to employ one full time staff member with volunteers continuing to play an important role in the delivery of services and programs at the centre.
In 2015, The Hub Neighbourhood Centre Inala merged with South West Brisbane Community Legal Centre Inc, an organisation that has provided legal advice services and promoted social justice in Inala and surrounding suburbs since 1986. This merger has strengthened our ability to provide services to our community and developed a more robust organisational structure. While the programs and activities change from year to year, we maintain the friendly and welcoming environment that the founding committee envisioned.
